In addition, unique to The Gardner Institute program, we provide our coach graduates with continued interaction with a coaching community, including opportunities for ongoing marketing, training, personal and professional development, and client referral support.

The Mindset for Success process is noted in the coaching world for its vertically deep impact on the client, that produces sustained personal change. It is based on the latest neuroscience research. Coaches who successfully complete Mindset for Success coach training gain the right to use this proprietary process with their clients.

What does it mean in the Prerequisites – “If you are new to coaching…you must sign up to coach with a Gardner Institute coach for a minimum of three months…”?
The Gardner Institute trains coaches who are committed to their own personal growth, based on the premise that individuals first must be willing to work on themselves before earning the right to coach others. To be eligible for the Core Coach Training Course, participants are required to coach with a Gardner Institute coach for a minimum of three either before or during their Core course. Many complete the Mindset for Success (The Dialoguee) personal coaching program which usually takes five to six months.

What is the difference in the prerequisite to be coached for Core vs. Mindset training?
Participants for the Mindset Coach Training Course must already hold an ICF credential or have completed the Gardner Institute Core Coach Training Course. They must also have completed (or be in the process of completing*) the Mindset for Success program (The Dialogues) with a Gardner Institute licensed coach prior to beginning the Mindset portion of their coach training. *Applicants for the Mindset course must have completed the personal retreat that is part of The Dialogues process, prior to the start of Mindset course, and they must continue to make steady process with their work in The Dialogues. A written recommendation from their coach is required.

What kind of information are you looking for in the two letters of recommendation?
The letters may be from individuals who know you on either a personal or professional basis. They should include the information about the writer’s knowledge and/or observations of your commitment, experience and desire to help, motivate or guide others to be their best.

Yes.

Can the application be faxed or scanned and attached to an email, or must they be hard-copy mailed?
Applications are accepted via any of these methods. If fees are paid by credit card, the applicant’s signature must be on the permission to charge form.

Can I start the Core class if I have not yet started coaching with a Gardner Institute coach?
Yes, it is possible to begin your personal coaching concurrent with beginning the Core course. The ideal situation would be to begin coaching a month or more prior.

What do I have to do besides the Core training to be eligible for ICF credentials? When I complete the core class will I have the ACC ?
When you complete the Core course, you will have 60 ACSTH (approved coach specific training hours). This meets the ICF requirements for training hours for ACC. The other requirements for ACC are: (1) 100 client coaching hours (25 can be pro-bono); (2) 10 mentor coaching hours; and (3) 2 letters of recommendation from a PCC or MCC coach. As a portfolio applicant, you will take an oral exam administered by phone by an ICF assessor – the exam will be a coaching role play in which you must demonstrate the ICF Core Competencies. What is the timeline I could expect to get my ICF credentials?
The critical path is getting 60 hours of ACSTH and 100 client coaching hours, so it is really up to you to accumulate the 100 hours as quickly as you are able to. For example, if you have 6 clients and coach them each for 3 one-hour sessions per month, that’s 18 hours in a month, so in five to six months, you could easily have the 100 hours.

When can I start coaching clients?
As soon as you feel ready! We encourage you to start attracting clients after the 4-day Core workshop. You will have to have 20 hours of client coaching hours to officially complete the Core course.

How much coaching practice will I get during training?
The onsite workshop and all teleclasses include coaching role plays. Participants rotate the assignment of coach, client and observer. The actual number of times you will be the coach depends on how many participants are in the class.

What books and materials do I need to have for coach training; what is the cost?
The complete book and materials list will be provided in the syllabus, which is sent via email after you have paid tuition in full. The primary books used are Co-Active Coaching: New Skills for Coaching People Toward Success in Work and Life, by Laura Whitworth, Henry Kinsey-House, Phil Sandahl and The Little Book of Ethics for Coaches, by Karen Colby Weiner.

We allow a participant to miss up to two teleclasses in any course without losing hours. Make-up assignments are required. On-site workshops must be attended in full; no make-ups allowed.

You will be required to listen to the recording of the class and provide a written summary. Depending on the content of the class, there may be other assignments.

What is the purpose of the final written exam?
The final written exam tests your knowledge and comprehension of the course material. Throughout the course, your instructors will observe your coaching skills and demonstration of the ICF Core Competencies, and will provide verbal and written feedback. There is a 30 minute oral exam that tests your demonstration of the ICF Core Competencies.
